Workshops

These workshops have been created and are taught by Death Doulas of Manitoba founder Michelle Leray. Each of these workshops will help you to begin to understand how to communicate better about death and dying, and provide you with the information, education, tools, skills, and knowledge you need to either enhance your death doula skills, or to help your loved ones and friends as they go through their time of transition. These workshops are open to all people, and you can attend either in person or join in via Zoom. In person seating is limited so be sure you book your spot as soon as possible!

No experience with deathcare is required to join in on these informative classes. Whether you are just curious about how to be more present during this sacred part of our lives, or you are considering a career as an end of life doula, you will definitely gain a great deal of perspective and awareness by participating in these discussions!

Death Doulas of Manitoba Members have the option of joining at a special rate!

Family, Friends, and Caregivers
A Workshop Series About
Supporting Loved Ones
Through End of Life

Thursdays 6pm-8pm
Online via Zoom
March 26, April 2, April 9

Week One: Before Death
Learn about supporting loved ones after a life-limiting illness has been diagnosed. This workshop will help you to understand more about advance care planning, how to hold space for difficult conversations, as well as how what you can do to help your loved one endure this time. There will be suggestions on how to care for the caregiver, along with how to recognize burnout and anticipatory grief.

Week Two: During Death
This workshop will contain information and examples of how to best support your loved one in the weeks and days leading up to death, how to recognize active dying, as well as how to be present during a vigil. You will learn why a “less is more” approach is most helpful during active dying, and how to honour your loved ones needs during this sacred transition.

Week Three: After Death
Lastly, you will receive helpful information what to do after death has taken place, including how death is not considered an emergency, and about the early days of bereavement. During this final workshop you will receive useful resources and all of your questions will be answered.

The workshops will be recorded, so if you cannot attend the live event, you will receive the recordings afterwards.
