From the Information Session:
Death Doula Certificate Program
This 40 hour program will be offered for the first time in September 2025!
While the plans are tentative, depending on a multitude of factors, these are the current goals, dates, and costs, subject to change:
The in person sessions will take place on Saturdays for 8 weeks from 10am-3pm September 6, 2025-October 25, 2025 at Shea Tree Wellness in Winnipeg.
The online sessions will take place via Zoom for 8 weeks, 2 evenings per week for 2.5 hours each session. This course will likely start mid-late September.
The anticipated cost of the course itself will be approximately $600.
There will be an additional option for an apprenticeship or a practicum to help emerging doulas gain real world training and experience. The details will be available as soon as possible for this, and depending on many factors, may not be available until the Spring of 2026.
The goal is to have the course approved by the End of Life Doula Association of Canada, so that graduates can become members in the future. This will be confirmed as soon as possible.
The books to read for this course that will be discussed during the course are:
The Needs of the Dying by David Kessler
Caring for the Dying by Henry Fersko-Weiss
Final Gifts by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley
Other books will be highly recommended, but these ones are important for the coursework and discussion.

Along with theory on a vast array of topics (advance care planning, how to support the dying and bereaved, legacy projects, alternative/holistic approaches to death and dying, ceremony and ritual, and so much more!) there will be a hands on approach to this learning, giving students the experience they need to begin offering their support and services to their communities.
